Explore Sea Life Up Close

You’ll get the chance to hold lobsters, crabs, hermit crabs, and other sea creatures we find in the traps. We provide aprons and gloves so you can handle the lobsters with ease. Please note that since we’re an educational lobster tour, we throw back the lobsters we catch.

FAQ

1. What Should I Bring On a Lobster Tour?
  • A good camera or smartphone
  • A pair of sunglasses and/or a hat
  • A sweater (it’s cold on the water!)
  • Sunscreen
  • Beverages and snacks you want to enjoy (consider bringing a small drink cooler)
2. Where Does the Tour Launch From?

We are located at 60 Portland Pier in Portland; if that’s giving you trouble, just look for Luke’s Lobster Portland, our kiosk is right next to them.

3. Where Is The Best Place To Park?

Downtown Portland has several parking facilities (here’s a map) as well as metered street parking. Metered street parking spots can be used for free after 6 p.m. and on Sundays. There are also a few metered spots on the pier itself though they are never free, unlike street meters. We recommend arriving early to give yourself ample time to find parking.

4. What About Weather Conditions?

As maritime pros, we run our tours rain or shine. Casco Bay is a protected area of sea, with barrier islands blocking the worst of the waves, making boat rides quite safe even in dreary weather. That said, in the event we must cancel a tour for some reason, you will get a full refund. You can rebook for another date and time, depending on availability. We also have a 7-day standard cancellation policy for refunds. Give us a call at 207-274-1844 at least 7 days before your tour so we can help with your cancellation, rebooking, or credit towards a future tour.

5. Can I Use the Bathroom On Board?

Yes! All of the vessels we operate have heads (bathrooms).  That said, they can be a little uncomfortable compared to a typical restroom.  We suggest going before the tour, if at all possible.

6. Is Seasickness Typically a Problem?

Most of our guests do not experience seasickness.  If you’re particularly prone to motion or seasickness, taking Dramamine before the tour or using an anti-nausea bracelet can help you to enjoy the tour to the fullest.

7. Do I Have to Tip the Crew?

Gratuity and tips are not expected or required. However, they are a great way to show your appreciation for the stellar service our crew provides!

8. Could I Keep a Lobster I Help Catch?

Unfortunately, we can’t legally keep or sell lobsters caught on tours, as they’re caught under for educational, and not commercial, purposes. Please call us at 207-274-1844 to find out about purchasing lobsters from our commercial vessel!
